Day 153 – Mark 6

“To knowledge self-control…” 2 Peter 1:6

RECOGNISING JESUS

A full ministry awaited the Lord Jesus and His Disciples when they got off their boat. The village of Gennesaret turned out in full force when they learned that Jesus had come to their shores.

“The people recognized Him, ran through that whole
surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds
those who were sick to wherever they heard He was.
Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country,
they laid the sick in the market places and begged Him
that they might just touch the hem of His garment.
And as many as touched Him were made well.”
MARK 6:54-56

1. A deeply touching scene

What a beautiful and touching scene we have in this text!

a) The sick were brought to Jesus by their able-bodied relatives or friends.
b) With faith all sought the mercy of the Lord.
c) With humility they begged that they might just touch His garment.
d) The multitudes appreciate the fact that Jesus had at last made it to their shores.
(He was not there with them everyday; nor could they expect Him to be there daily).

2. A deep contrast intended

This scene described the heart of the people of Gennesaret. We have a stunning contrast to the heart of the Disciples of Jesus!

a) To the Disciples this scene was a “common” one.
b) They had seen Jesus minister to the multitudes time and again.
c) They were given another opportunity to deal with their hardened heart!

DEALING WITH A HARDENED HEART

The Disciples knew that they had to deal with the problem that they knew existed. They had to deal with their hardened heart! Perhaps the following may help!

1. There must come a fresh sense of appreciation of who Jesus really is.

2. There must come a fresh sense of appreciation of their privileged position- of being with Jesus every day. They must not take that for granted!
