Day 14

"I will yet bring an heir to you"

Text: Micah 1:15

THE PLACE OF ISRAEL’S GOD

Sadly and foolishly, Israel had “forsaken the Lord their God (Me), the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns- broken cisterns that can hold no water.” (Jeremiah 2:13).

“I will yet bring an heir to you, O inhabitant of Mareshah;
The glory of Israel shall come to Adullam.”
Micah 1:15

1. “O inhabitant of Mareshah”

a) Mareshah means “conquer,” or “conquered”.
b) Israel and Judah would be conquered.
i) Assyria would conquer Israel (722 BC).
ii) Babylon would conquer Judah (586 BC).
c) The destruction of the two nations:
i) There would be a massive loss of lives.
ii) The kings would then lack heirs to ascend the throne.
iii) The future looked very bleak indeed.

2. “I will yet bring an heir to you”

a) This word came from the LORD God Himself.
i) This was a promise.
ii) This was a word of hope.
b) “An heir”
i) This is a veiled reference to the “Messiah”.
ii) Isaiah preached extensively about the Messiah whom God would anoint (Isaiah 7, 11 etc.).

3. “The glory of Israel”

a) This is a reference to the LORD God Himself.
b) He was indeed “the glory of Israel”.
c) When Israel and Judah forsook the Lord, they lost their “glory”.

4. “Shall come to Adullam”

a) King David took refuge in the caves of Adullam to flee from the Philistines (2 Samuel 23:13).
b) In all the troubles David faced, the Lord was there to deliver him from his enemies.
c) Once again the LORD, the glory of Israel would come to the rescue of His people.

There was no hope from their allies! God Himself would be their Deliverer once again!
