Day 34

"But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD"

Text: Micah 3:8

A TRUE PROPHET OF GOD

Micah was a good example of what it means to be true prophet of God, a faithful servant.

“But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD,
And of justice and might,
To declare to Jacob his transgression
And to Israel his sin.”
Micah 3:8

1. A necessary statement

a) This statement was not made out of pride or arrogance.
b) It was an important and necessary statement that had to be made.
c) A clear distinction must be made between the true and the false prophet.

2. Characteristics of one who was a true servant, and prophet of God

a) “But truly I am full of power”
i) This must be evidenced in life.
ii) There must be power that comes from the Lord to enable one to serve mightily.
b) “By the Spirit of the LORD”
i) The Spirit of God will first come upon a servant of the Lord to anoint him.
ii) He would then be filled with power as the occasion necessitates it.
c) “Justice and might”
i) There was a clear understanding of justice.
ii) There was might from the Lord to match the sense of justice felt and understood.
d) “To declare to Jacob his transgression”
i) Jacob of old transgressed against his brother Esau.
ii) He transgressed against the Lord and had to be chastised.
iii) Israel as a nation was like Jacob who had transgressed badly against their brethren.
iv) Justice and might translated into courage to upbraid Jacob (Israel) for its transgression.
e) “And to Israel his sin”
i) Jacob was forgiven of his transgression and was given a new name “Israel”.
ii) There was a reason why Micah used both names to describe the nation.
iii) Israel continued to sin against the Lord by omitting to fulfil the law of God.
iv) Israel failed to be faithful and true to the Lord God.

In both transgression and omission to uphold justice, Israel had sinned against the Lord.
