"But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD"

Text: Micah 4:12

THE LIMITED THOUGHTS OF THE WICKED NATION

The enemy nations would be driven by their wicked intentions. They had noted that their God seemed to have abandoned His people completely. And thus, they seemed unafraid to pour out their own personal fury against Zion. But they had surmised wrongly!

“But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD,
Nor do they understand His counsel;
For He will gather them like sheaves to the threshing floor.”
Micah 4:12

1. “But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD”

a) The enemy nations assumed that they knew God’s thoughts.
b) In the first instance, they were partially correct.
i) God was angry with His people.
ii) He was punishing them.
iii) He would not hear their prayers and come to their rescue.
c) But they did not know of the latter plans that God had for His people.
i) That He would deliver His people.
ii) That He would redeem them.
iii) That He would punish the wicked enemy nations.

2. “Nor do they understand His counsel”

a) They would not have understood because the future plans of God had not been revealed.
b) They could not have imagined that God would want to relate to His people again.
c) They had not reckoned how merciful God could be to His people.

3. “For He will gather them like sheaves to the threshing floor”

a) To a farmer, every sheaf of grain is important.
b) The faithful farmer would have a clear and definite plan for His crops.
i) He would watch over his fields.
ii) He would protect the grains as they grow.
iii) He would plan to harvest the grains when they ripen.
iv) He would gather the sheaves to the threshing floor.
v) He would separate the chaff from the grain.
vi) Every sheaf would be important! God was that good and faithful Owner of the fields.
