Text: Exodus 13: 1-4
MEDITATION
Exodus 13:1-4
1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “Consecrate to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.”
3 And Moses said to the people: “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.
4 On this day you are going out, in the month Abib.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. God’s instruction to Moses
a. This statement was an introductory statement.
b. The firstborn of all the children of Israel were spared from death.
c. The firstborn of all the Egyptians were slain.
d. From here on, all the firstborn that would be born would belong to God.
2. Moses word to the children of Israel
a. The day of their deliverance from Egypt must be remembered.
i. Egypt was their house of bondage.
ii. The children had been enslaved for many long years.
b. The hand of the LORD
i. It was by a strong hand that God delivered the children of Israel.
ii. It took 10 mighty plagues before Pharaoh decided to let the people go away from the land of Egypt.
3. The month of Abib
a. This was the name of the first month of the Jewish Calendar.
b. They would have their own calendar to mark the passing of the days and months.
c. Their calendar would note the mighty hand of God in the history of the people of Israel.
