MEDITATION
Exodus 15:20-21
20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
21 And Miriam answered them:
“Sing to the LORD,
For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has thrown into the sea!”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Miriam
a. She was the older sister of Moses.
b. She was the one who looked after Moses’s ark in a river (Exodus 2:1-10).
c. She was described as “a prophetess”.
d. She was also called the sister of Aaron.
2. Dancing of the women
a. Miriam led the womenfolk in folk-dancing.
b. They used the timbrel (a tambourine).
c. This was expressive of spontaneous joy.
d. This was appropriate:
i. They had been spared from death.
ii. They had been delivered from slavery.
iii. They were going to the Promise Land.
iv. God was in their midst.
3. Contents of the chorus
a. It was a song sung to the LORD for His glorious triumph over the Egyptians.
b. The Egyptians had been thrown into the sea by the LORD.
