Text: Exodus 28: 31-35
MEDITATION
Exodus 28:31-35
31 “You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue.
32 There shall be an opening for his head in the middle of it; it shall have a woven binding all around its opening, like the opening in a coat of mail, so that it does not tear.
33 And upon its hem you shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet, all around its hem, and bells of gold between them all around:
34 a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe all around.
35 And it shall be upon Aaron when he ministers, and its sound will be heard when he goes into the holy place before the LORD and when he comes out, that he may not die.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The robe of the ephod
a. This is different from the ephod mentioned earlier (Exodus 28:4).
i. The ephod was mentioned.
ii. The robe was mentioned.
b. This is “the robe”.
i. It is the inner garment worn by the high priest.
ii. The ephod is worn over this robe.
2. The opening of the robe
a. It is meant to be a woven piece.
b. This is to prevent it from being easily torn.
3. At the bottom of the hem of this robe
a. Golden bells were to be worn.
i. The sound made by the bells would not be very loud.
ii. But it would be audible.
iii. The sound of the bells would announce the presence of the high priest in the most holy place.
b. Pomegranates to be made and worn.
i. This was one of the national fruits of Israel.
ii. This would represent the promise and the hope of fruitfulness of the nation.
iii. The high priest must pray in faith and hope.
4. That he may not die
a. The high priest must not be presumptuous.
b. He must announce his presence before God as he walked into the Most Holy Place.
c. This is proper regard and reverence. One does not come into the Presence of God unannounced!
