Text: Exodus 31: 12-15
MEDITATION
Exodus 31:12-15
12 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
13 “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people.
15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A special word from God
a. To Moses.
b. To be taught to the children of Israel.
2. The 4th Commandment: The keeping of the Sabbath Law (Exodus 20:8-11).
3. The significance of the Sabbath Law
It is a special sign between God and Israel (Exodus 31:13).
4. The keeping of the Sabbath Law
a. To acknowledge the LORD.
b. He is the God who had sanctified them.
i. He has chosen them to be His people.
ii. They are holy to the Lord.
iii. They must practise holiness.
c. The Sabbath Day
i. It is to be regarded as a holy day.
ii. It must not be profaned.
5. The breaking of the Sabbath
a. It is broken when one chooses to work rather than set aside time to worship God.
b. One may work six days a week.
i. To make a living.
ii. To provide for the family.
6. The penalty
a. It was very strict.
b. The ultimate penalty was death.
c. This does not mean that the penalty would be imposed without mercy.
d. The death penalty was stated to teach that this Law is to be taken seriously.

《出埃及记 31:12-15》
12 耶和华晓谕摩西说:
13 “你要吩咐以色列人说:‘你们务要守我的安息日,因为这是你我之间世世代代的证据,使你们知道我耶和华是叫你们成为圣的。
14 所以你们要守安息日,以为圣日。凡干犯这日的,必要把他治死;凡在这日做工的,必从民中剪除。15 六日要做工,但第七日是安息圣日,是向耶和华守为圣的。凡在安息日做工的,必要把他治死。
