MEDITATION

Exodus 31:16-18

16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.
17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Elaboration and Emphasis

a. The children of Israel must keep the Sabbath.

b. They are to observe it as a perpetual covenant.

2. Reiteration

a. It is a sign between God and Israel forever.

b. God expects the highest regard for this sign He has given.

3. God’s practice of keeping the Sabbath

a. He did work for six days to create the world.

b. He paused on the Sabbath.

c. He “rested” and He was “refreshed”.

4. The challenge

a. To follow the example of the Lord.

b. To rest.

c. To find ourselves refreshed.

5. Two Tablets of Stone

a. These two tablets contained the Ten Commandments.

b. The Commandments were written by God personally .

c. They are priceless.

d. They are to be treasured.
