Text: Exodus 33: 21-23

MEDITATION

Exodus 33:21-23

21 And the LORD said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock.
22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.
23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. God understood Moses’ desire

a. His desire was honourable.

b. His heart was in the right place.

2. God’s grace extended

a. God would allow Moses to draw nearer.

i. This was a special blessing.

ii. No one had been this close to God.

b. Situating Moses

i. He would cause him to stand on a rock.

ii. Moses would have an unobstructed view of God.

c. Passing by

i. He would pass by Moses in His great glory.

ii. This would be an extraordinary experience.

d. Protecting Moses

i. He would hide Moses in the cleft of the rock.

ii. God would cover Moses with His hand as He passes by.

e. A glimpse of the back of God

i. This is an imagery used.

ii. God is Spirit and has no physical being.

iii. This is to suggest great closeness of God’s presence.

f. God’s full face

i. God’s face cannot be fully seen.

ii. No mortal being can stand in the brightness of His Being.

iii. Not even Moses.

iv. He will perish if he “sees” God’s face.

v. The fullness of God’s glory is too awesome to comprehend.

21耶和华说：“看哪，在我这里有地方，你要站在磐石上。
22我的荣耀经过的时候，我必将你放在磐石穴中，用我的手遮掩你，等我过去。

23然后我要将我的手收回，你就得见我的背，却不得见我的面。”

在生活里有意义地应用

1. 上帝理解摩西的渴望

a. 他心中渴望的是荣耀的事物

b. 他有着正确的心思意念

2. 上帝施恩典：

a. 上帝允许摩西前进

i. 这是特别的祝福

ii. 从未有人能够与上帝近距离

b. 摩西站立的位置

i. 上帝指示他站在磐石上

ii. 摩西能够完完全全地看见上帝

c. 上帝的经过

i. 祂伟大的荣耀会经过摩西

ii. 这将会是前所未有的体验

d. 保护摩西

i. 上帝会将摩西放在磐石穴中

ii. 上帝会用祂的手遮掩摩西直到祂过去

e. 看见上帝的背

i. 这是比喻的运用

ii. 上帝是属灵的，而且祂并没有真实的肉体

iii. 这个比喻形容与上帝十分靠近

f. 上帝的面

i. 无法看见上帝的面

ii. 世人无法看到上帝本体所发的光辉

iii. 这包括摩西

iv. 若他看到上帝的“面”，他会死去。

v. 世人是无法完全地目睹上帝美好的荣耀
