MEDITATION
Genesis 16:13-16
13 Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”
14 Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; observe, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
15 So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Hagar’s recognition of the identity of the Angel of the LORD
a. She perceived that the Angel of the LORD was Divine.
b. She called Him, “You-are-the-God-who-sees”.
i. She had seen the One who sees her.
ii. The well she was at, was renamed “Beer Lahai Roi”.
iii. The geographical location was noted. It was between Kadesh and Bered.
c. The meaning of the phrase “Beer Lahai Roi”
i. Beer means “Well”.
ii. Lahai means “He who lives” (The Living One).
iii. Roi means “He who sees”.
2. Return to the home of Abram and Sarai
a. Hagar obeyed the Angel of the LORD and returned to her home with Abram.
b. She gave birth to a son who was named “Ishmael”.
3. Abram
a. He was 86 years of age.
b. It had been 11 years since he left Haran and entered Canaan.
