Text: Genesis 24: 1-4
MEDITATION
Genesis 24:1-4
1 Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
2 So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “Please, put your hand under my thigh,
3 and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell;
4 but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Old age
a. This is a reality of life.
b. The LORD’s blessings on Abraham were real and abundant.
2. Concern for Isaac’s future
a. Abraham was concerned about Isaac’s marriage.
b. What he did not want to see:
i. That Isaac would end up marrying a girl from Canaan.
ii. The Canaanites were steep in idolatry.
3. A solemn task for his old and trusted servant
a. This was the Chief Steward in Abraham’s household.
b. He had rule over all that Abraham possessed.
c. It was customary to have a Chief Steward to look after the wealth of the family.
d. The task given to the Chief Steward was to find a suitable wife for Isaac.
This task was so solemn that the Chief Steward had to take a solemn oath.
e. He was to return to Haran and look for a suitable wife for Isaac from his relatives.

2亚伯拉罕对管理他全业最老的仆人说:“请你把手放在我大腿底下,
3我要叫你指着耶和华天地的主起誓:不要为我儿子娶这迦南地中的女子为妻,4你要往我本地本族去,为我的儿子以撒娶一个妻子。”
