Text: Genesis 25: 1-6

MEDITATION

Genesis 25:1-6

1 Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.
2 And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
3 Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.
4 And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
5 And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.
6 But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Life in the ancient days

a. Polygamy was common practice.
b. This does not mean that Abraham was wise in practising polygamy though.

2. Abraham’s family

a. Keturah bore him six sons.
b. He also lived to see his grandchildren (Genesis 25:1-4)

3. Concubines

a. Concubines were also a part of the ancient way of life.
b. These were “secondary wives”.
c. They also bore him children.
d. The names of these children were not recorded.
This was not an uncommon practice.

4. Inheritance

a. His heir was Isaac.
b. All his other family members were sent away from Isaac.
c. This was to avoid possible conflict at the time of his death.

《创世记 25:1-6》
1亚伯拉罕又娶了一妻，名叫基土拉。
2 基土拉给他生了心兰、约珊、米但、米甸、伊施巴和书亚。
3 约珊生了示巴和底但，底但的子孙是亚书利族、利都是族和利乌米族。
4 米甸的儿子是以法、以弗、哈诺、亚比大和以勒大。这都是基土拉的子孙。
5 亚伯拉罕将一切所有的都给了以撒。

6 亚伯拉罕把财物分给他庶出的众子，趁着自己还在世的时候，打发他们离开他的儿子以撒往东方去。

在生活里有意义地的应用

1. 古时的生活方式

a.一夫多妻制是常见的做法
b. 但这并不表示亚伯拉罕一夫多妻制的做法是明智的

2. 亚伯拉罕的家人

a. 基土拉给他生了六个儿子。
b. 他还能看到他的孙子《创世记 25：1-4》

3. 妾妻

a. 妾妻也是古时生活方式的一部分
b. 这些都是“次要的妻子”
c. 他们也给他生了孩子
d. 这些孩子的名字没有被记录
这些做法并非不常见

4. 继承人

a. 他的继承人是以撒
b. 其他家庭成员都被打发走，远离以撒
c. 这是为了避免他去世时可能发生的冲突
