Text: Genesis 27: 25-26
MEDITATION
Genesis 27:25-26
25 He said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s game, so that my soul may bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.
26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near now and kiss me, my son.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Isaac’s invitation to Jacob
a. He was now permitted to bring the food to the father.
b. Isaac would eat what he thought was Esau’s game.
c. He would then bless his son.
2. Jacob presents the food to his father
a. He brought the savoury dish to his father.
b. Rebekah had also brought bread.
c. Wine was offered to complete the meal.
d. Isaac ate and drank what was offered to him.
3. A moment of tender affection
a. This was a special moment between father and son.
b. Isaac thought that Esau stood before him.
c. He asked Esau to come over and give him a kiss.
THE SADNESS OF THIS SCENE
This scene may be described as bitter-sweet.
1. The father’s affection was limited to Esau.
2. The younger twin was not in his mind at all.
3. Jacob was deceiving his father all the way.
4. Rebekah, though not present, was involved in many details.
5. Esau was sadly unaware of all that was happening!
