Text: Genesis 28: 18-22

MEDITATION

Genesis 28:18-22

18 Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously.
20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on,
21 so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God.
22 And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Bethel

a. The word “Bethel’ means “the house of God”.
The name of this place was called Luz previously.
b. Pillar sanctified by oil
i. This was Jacob’s response to this spiritual experience.
ii. This was his simple way of offering worship.
iii. He did not have a whole lot of knowledge about the Lord and how He should be worshipped.

2. A solemn vow made to God

a. If
i. God would indeed keep His word given to him.
ii. God would be with him.
iii. He would watch over him and protect him.
iv. He would provide for him physically.
v. God would bring him back to the land of Canaan in peace.
b. Then
i. The LORD would be his God.
ii. This place would indeed be consecrated as God’s house.
iii. He would give to God a tithe (as Abraham did; Genesis 14:20).

18雅各清早起来，把所枕的石头立做柱子，浇油在上面。
19他就给那地方起名叫伯特利，但那地方起先名叫路斯。
20雅各许愿说：“神若与我同在，在我所行的路上保佑我，又给我食物吃、衣服穿，
21使我平平安安地回到我父亲的家，我就必以耶和华为我的神，

22我所立为柱子的石头也必做神的殿。凡你所赐给我的，我必将十分之一献给你。

在生活里有意义地应用

1. 伯特利

a. “伯特利” – 意思是“上帝的殿”
这地方原先叫路斯
b. 柱子以浇油成圣
i. 这是他属灵经历之后的反应
ii. 这是他简单的崇拜方式
iii. 他对上帝并没有什么理解，也不知道该如何崇拜祂

2. 向上帝发誓

a. “若”
i. 上帝确实会守祂的话
ii. 上帝会与他同在
iii. 上帝会看守，保佑他
iv. 上帝会在物质上供应
v. 上帝会平安的将他带回迦南
b. “就必”
i. 以上帝为他的神
ii. 这地方也必做神的殿
iii. 他会将十分之一献给上帝（就如亚伯拉罕一样；创世纪 14:20）
