Text: Genesis 31: 1-3
MEDITATION
Genesis 31:1-3
1 Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has acquired all this wealth.”
2 And Jacob saw the countenance of Laban, and indeed it was not favourable toward him as before.
3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The words of Laban’s sons
a. They noted the growing wealth of Jacob.
b. Their conclusion:
i. Jacob had taken away their father’s wealth.
ii. He had become wealthy because of the initial support from Laban.
2. Jacob’s discernment
a. He had heard what his brothers-in-law had said.
b. His servants could have reported what they had heard.
c. He also noted that Laban’s countenance to him was no longer favourable.
3. The growing disparity between Laban and Jacob was obvious
a. Laban’s flocks were weaker and decreasing in size.
b. Jacob’s flocks were stronger and increasing in size.
c. In addition, he had also acquired camels and donkeys and servants.
4. An important word from the LORD
a. He knew Jacob was troubled.
b. God’s promise was of great comfort.
i. Jacob may plan to return to Canaan.
ii. The LORD would be with him in the long journey back.

1雅各听见拉班的儿子们有话说:“雅各把我们父亲所有的都夺了去,并借着我们父亲的,得了这一切的荣耀。”
2雅各见拉班的气色向他不如从前了。3耶和华对雅各说:“你要回你祖你父之地,到你亲族那里去,我必与你同在。”
