My Song In The Night (Genesis)
我夜间的歌曲《创世记》
Text: Genesis 32: 13-16
MEDITATION
Genesis 32:13-16
13 So he lodged there that same night, and took what came to his hand as a present for Esau his brother:
14 two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
15 thirty milk camels with their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten foals.
16 Then he delivered them to the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and said to his servants, “Pass over before me, and put some distance between successive droves.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The first set of messengers sent to Esau
a. They were sent with only a message.
b. It was a preliminary move to reconcile with Esau.
2. The preparation of a significant gift to Esau
a. The first set of messengers did not bring a gift.
b. Jacob decided that he must offer a significant gift to his brother Esau.
c. The gift would represent the following:
i. That he regretted his past actions.
ii. That he had great respect for Esau.
3. The actual gift enumerated:
a. 200 female goats and 20 male goats
b. 200 ewes and 20 rams
c. 30 milk camels with their colts
d. 40 cows and 10 bulls
e. 20 female donkeys and 10 foals
4. Wariness in Jacob’s heart
The gift was a huge one. But he remained unsure how Esau would respond. Thus, he gave instruction to his servants to pace out the droves as they went to greet Esau. The gift would perhaps be better appreciated as each group is presented to Esau.

《创世记 32:13-16》
13 当夜,雅各在那里住宿,就从他所有的物中拿礼物要送给他哥哥以扫:
14 母山羊二百只,公山羊二十只;母绵羊二百只,公绵羊二十只;
