MEDITATION
Genesis 42:9-14
9 Then Joseph remembered the dreams which he had dreamed about them, and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land!”
10 And they said to him, “No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.
11 We are all one man’s sons; we are honest men; your servants are not spies.”
12 But he said to them, “No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land.”
13 And they said, “Your servants are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and in fact, the youngest is with our father today, and one is no more.”
14 But Joseph said to them, “It is as I spoke to you, saying, ‘You are spies!’
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Remembering the earlier dreams
a. A dream of sheaves bowing to Joseph (Genesis 37:5-8).
b. A dream of the sun, moon and stars bowing to Joseph (Genesis 37:9-11).
2. A serious allegation against the sons of Israel
a. They were accused of being spies.
b. They had come to check out the weaknesses (nakedness) of the land.
3. The alarmed response of the sons of Israel
a. They addressed Joseph as “lord”.
b. They addressed themselves as “servants”.
c. They were not “spies”.
4. Joseph insisted that they were spies. This was uttered three times over!
5. A description of their family to Joseph whom they thought was an Egyptian lord
a. They were the sons of just one man who lived in Canaan.
b. They were honest people.
c. They had come to Egypt just to purchase food.
d. There were originally twelves sons.
e. One stayed at home with their father; and one was no more.
