Text: Genesis 42: 21-24

MEDITATION

Genesis 42:21-24

21 Then they said to one another, “We are truly guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us, and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us.”
22 And Reuben answered them, saying, “Did I not speak to you, saying, ‘Do not sin against
the boy’; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us.”
23 But they did not know that Joseph understood them, for he spoke to them through an interpreter.
24 And he turned himself away from them and wept. Then he returned to them again, and talked with them. And he took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Conversation among the sons of Israel

a. They remembered what they did to their brother Joseph.
i. Joseph was in anguish.
ii. He had pleaded with them.
iii. They had not listened.
b. They were guilty of a great and sinful misdeed.
c. They felt that this distress they were experiencing was a consequence of their sin.

2. Reuben

a. He recalled what he had said to them at that time.
b. He urged them not to harm Joseph, but his words were ignored.
c. He felt that his blood (death) were upon all of them.

3. Joseph

a. He understood their tongue.
b. He was moved to tears as he heard them.
c. After he had composed himself, he saw them again.
d. Simeon was bound in chains in front of them.
This would serve as a strong word of warning to them!

《创世记42：21-24》
21 他们彼此说：“我们在兄弟身上实在有罪。他哀求我们的时候，我们见他心里的愁苦，却不肯听，所以这场苦难临到我们身上。”
22 鲁本说：“我岂不是对你们说过不可伤害那孩子吗？只是你们不肯听，所以流他血的罪向我们追讨。”
23 他们不知道约瑟听得出来，因为在他们中间用通事传话。

24 约瑟转身退去，哭了一场，又回来对他们说话，就从他们中间挑出西缅来，在他们眼前把他捆绑。

在生活里有意义地应用

1. 以色列的儿子们之间的对话

a. 他们记得自己对兄弟约瑟所做的事情
i. 约瑟忍受痛苦
ii. 他哀求他们
iii. 他们却不肯听
b. 他们犯了重大及罪恶的过错
c. 他们认为自己正在遭受的苦难是当日的罪所种的恶果

2. 鲁本

a. 他记得他当时对他们说的话
b. 他敦促他们不要伤害约瑟，但他们却不理他的话
c. 他觉得流他血的罪（死亡）正向他们追讨

3. 约瑟

a. 他听得懂他们的语言
b. 听了他们的对话，他感动得哭了一场
c. 他冷静之后，再次回来见他们
d. 西缅在他们眼前被捆绑
这将是对他们的严肃警告！
