Text: Genesis 45: 1-3

MEDITATION

Genesis 45:1-3

1 Then Joseph could not restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried out, “Make everyone go out from me!” So no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers.
2 And he wept aloud, and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard it.
3 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph; does my father still live?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed in his presence.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Joseph’s response

a. As he listened to Judah his heart was deeply moved.

b. Judah had spoken words that must have moved his soul.

2. The things that must have been deeply moving

a. The love of his father.

i. Jacob had loved Rachel from the beginning to the very end.
She was his wife.

ii. Jacob had loved Joseph very dearly. No one came closer to his heart.

b. A different brother called Judah.

i. Judah was willing to sacrifice his life for Benjamin.

ii. He did not want his father to go to his grave in sorrow.

iii. The brothers had already caused so much sorrow to the father.

3. Giving way to tears

a. Joseph could no longer hold back his tears.

b. He ordered all his servants to leave him.

c. He wept aloud. His weeping was reported to the Pharaoh!

4. Identifying himself to his brothers

a. Joseph disclosed himself as their brother whom they had sold away.

b. His brothers were even more alarmed and fearful at this disclosure!
