MEDITATION

Genesis 48:1-2

1 Now it came to pass after these things that Joseph was told, “Indeed your father is sick”; and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
2 And Jacob was told, “Look, your son Joseph is coming to you”; and Israel strengthened himself and sat up on the bed.

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. The evening years of life

a. Jacob came to Egypt when he was already 130 years old (Genesis 47:9).

b. He became ill as he grew older.

2. Joseph

a. He did not live with his brethren.

b. He was the governor of Egypt and would have an official residence.

c. Joseph was also very busy with his work.

i. Looking after the famine situation in Egypt.

ii. There were many administrative matters to look into.

d. The illness of Jacob was reported to Joseph.

3. Visiting Jacob

a. Joseph responded swiftly to the news.

b. His father was close to his heart.

c. He brought his two sons with him to visit Jacob.

4. News of the arrival of Joseph

a. Jacob was informed that his son was coming to see him.

b. He mustered whatever strength he had.

c. He even managed to sit up on his bed to see his favourite son.
The depth and strength of the love between father and son is truly moving!
