My Song In The Night (Genesis)
我夜间的歌曲《创世记》
Text: Genesis 49: 8-12
MEDITATION
Genesis 49:8-12
8 “Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise;
Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies;
Your father’s children shall bow down before you.
9 Judah is a lion’s whelp;
From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He bows down, he lies down as a lion;
And as a lion, who shall rouse him?
10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
11 Binding his donkey to the vine,
And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine,
He washed his garments in wine,
And his clothes in the blood of grapes.
12 His eyes are darker than wine,
And his teeth whiter than milk.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Jacob’s word to Judah was rather long
a. Judah means “praise”. He was the fourth son of Leah.
b. In time to come, he would win praise from his brothers.
2. The future of Judah was quite remarkably described:
a. He would have victory over his enemies.
b. The children of Israel would bow to him.
c. He was compared to a young and powerful lion.
3. A kingly line
a. He would one day carry a scepter.
i. This is a symbol of a king.
ii. From the line of Judah will come kings.
iii. And as a king he will lay down laws for the kingdom.
iv. This was a prophecy of the Davidic line of kings.
b. Shiloh
i. This was a prophetic statement too.
Shiloh would be the major place of worship before Jerusalem was established by David and Solomon.
ii. “Until Shiloh comes.”
The full meaning of Shiloh may suggest “tranquility”.
It may also be interpreted as “To whom it belongs.”
This is a veiled Messianic word. One day Messiah will come from the line of David, to command obedience from the people. Kingship, the law and obedience belong to Him (Shiloh).
4. Prosperity and Health
a. Judah would be a region where good vines are grown.
b. The vines are so rich that the clothes of the grape-treaders are covered red
(blood of the grapes).
c. The people would also be blessed with health (white teeth, dark eyes).
