Text: Genesis 49: 16-18

MEDITATION

Genesis 49:16-18

16 “Dan shall judge his people
As one of the tribes of Israel.
17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way,
A viper by the path,
That bites the horse’s heels
So that its rider shall fall backward.
18 I have waited for your salvation, O Lord!

MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE

1. Dan

a. He was the offspring of Bilhah, the maid of Rachel.
b. Bilhah became the concubine of Jacob.
c. Her task was to bear children for Rachel.
d. There was intense rivalry between Rachel and Leah.
e. Rachel desperately wanted to have children.
f. The only way she could think of was to offer Bilhah as a concubine to Jacob.

2. The future of Dan

a. The meaning of the word “Dan” means “judge”.
b. He would become a tribal leader in Israel.
c. But there was a dark and sinister side to Dan.
i. He was compared to a poisonous viper.
ii. He could strike a horse and cause the rider to fall.

3. Salvation from the LORD

a. Jacob knew about the dark side of Dan.
b. However, he was powerless to change the character of Dan.
c. All he could do was to pray and wait for the salvation of the LORD.

b. 他将成为以色列支派的领袖
c. 可是，但却有着阴暗而险恶的一面
i. 他被比喻成有毒素的虺
ii. 他可伤马蹄并使骑马的坠落

3. 神的救恩

a. 雅各晓得但黑暗的一面
b. 然而，他却无法改变但的性格
c. 他唯能做的是祷告，并等候神的救恩
