Text: Luke 10: 17-20

THE SUCCESS OF THE 70

1. The 70 Disciples had a successful mission.

2. They returned to the Lord Jesus with much excitement.

“Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

Luke 10:17

a. This was a new experience for the 70.

b. Demons were powerful but they had to obey them when the name of the Lord Jesus was proclaimed.

THE RESPONSE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. Satan

a. He was the leader of all the demons.

b. The Lord’s remark.

“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

Luke 10:18

i. Not even Satan can resist the power of the Lord’s name.

ii. He fell as the Disciples ministered successfully.

2. Authority from the Lord

a. Over serpents and scorpions.

i. This was a figure of speech.

ii. Snakes can bite and scorpions can sting.

iii. The Disciples need not be afraid of all that will try and harm them.

b. Over all the power of the enemy.

i. The enemy (Satan) will attempt to harm them.

ii. But the Disciples will have authority over them.

iii. They will not be able to hurt the Disciples.

3. Focus of Rejoicing

a. The focus of rejoicing:

i. For the Disciples, it was that demons were subject to them in the name of the Lord.

ii. This should not be the focus.

b. The true and proper focus:

i. That their names are written in heaven.

ii. Salvation and the hope of heaven should be the focus of rejoicing.

1. 七十位门徒成功地完成了任务

i. 即便是撒旦，也无法抵抗主的名的力量

ii. 当门徒顺利侍奉的时候，撒旦坠落了

2. 主的权柄

a. 可以践踏蛇和蝎子

i. 这是一个比喻

ii. 蛇会咬人，而蝎子能刺伤人

iii. 门徒们无需担心任何会伤害到他们的事物

b. 胜过仇敌一切的能力

i. 敌人（撒旦）会试图伤害他们

ii. 不过，门徒们有着胜过于仇敌的权柄

iii. 他们无法伤害门徒们

3. 欢喜的焦点

a. 欢喜的焦点在于：

i. 对门徒而言，他们为鬼因主的名而服了他们而欢喜

ii. 不过，这并不是正确的焦点

b. 正确和适当的焦点：

i. 他们的名记录在天上

ii. 救赎以及天国的盼望应该成为门徒们欢喜的焦点
