My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
Text: Luke 11: 27-28
OPINIONS VOICED OUT
1. It is not unusual for people to voice out their opinions.
2. Some opinions are, unfortunately, negative.
a. Some made foolish and caustic remarks (Luke 11:15).
b. Others express unbelief, demanding signs (Luke 11:16).
AN OPINION OF A WOMAN
1. A woman voiced what she felt.
“Blessed is the womb that bore You, And the breasts which nursed You!”
Luke 11:27
2. An analysis of this opinion:
a. The focus was on the mother of the Lord Jesus.
b. She was crediting the mother’s role in bringing up the Lord.
c. Certainly, Mary did her part in looking after the Lord Jesus as an Infant.
d. But was the blessing of God limited to Mary?
THE CORRECT UNDERSTANDING GIVEN
1. The Lord Jesus did not rebuke the woman.
2. But He wanted her to know the truth about the blessings of God.
“More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Luke 11:28
a. Was Mary blessed?
Yes!
i. The angel Gabriel pronounced her blessed (Luke 1:28).
ii. So did Elizabeth (Luke 1:42).
iii. Mary understood how blessed she was (Luke 1:46-49).
b. But the blessing of God was as wonderful.
i. To those who hear the word of God.
ii. And they keep the word of God diligently.
