Text: Luke 11: 42-44
A SERIES OF WOES PRONOUNCED
1. These words of “Woe” were pronounced against:
a. Pharisees Luke 11:42
b. Scribes Luke 11:44
2. The word “woe” means:
a. Sorrow
b. Distress
These would come upon the scribes and Pharisees when judged by God!
THE FIRST WOE
“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to
have done, without leaving the others undone.”Luke 11:42
1. The known practice of the Pharisees’ tithing.
a. They practise what they call “tithing”. They will tithe all the herbs they may have in their garden.
b. But will neglect the weightier matters:
i. Justice
ii. The love of God
2. They could have helped people in need of justice and love, but they did not offer their help to those in need!
THE SECOND WOE
Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
Luke 11:43
1. They craved recognition from people.
2. They loved being recognized and greeted wherever they went:
a. In synagogues
b. In marketplaces
THE THIRD WOE
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like graves which are not seen, and the men who walk over them are not aware of them.”
Luke 11:44
1. The scribes and Pharisees were hypocrites.
2. The Lord Jesus compared them as “graves”.
a. Tombs were considered unclean.
b. They are usually quite far from the city.
c. To come to a tomb was to become unclean.
3. If the scribes and Pharisees were like graves, they were “unclean”.
a. People who come into contact with them would be unclean.
b. Not in the ritualistic sense, but their sinfulness might affect them.

a. 他们将自己园子里栽种的各样菜蔬‘献上十分之一’
b.但却忽略较重要的事物:
i. 公义
ii. 爱神
2.他们能帮助需要公益与神爱的人们,但他们却不伸出援手!
第二祸
“你们法利赛人有祸了!因为你们喜爱会堂里的首位,又喜爱人在街市上问你们的安。”
《路加福音 11:43》
1. 他们渴望人们的认同
2. 他们喜欢收到认可,到处受到人们迎接问候
a.在会堂里
b.在市场
第三祸
“你们有祸了!因为你们如同不显露的坟墓,走在上面的人并不知道。”
