Text: Luke 11: 51-54

A LONG AND DARK HISTORY OF KILLING

1. The Killing of Abel (Luke 11:51a; Genesis 4:8)

a. Cain slew his brother.

b. He did this because:

i. He was angry.

ii. He was vindictive.

2. The killing of Zechariah (Luke 11:51b; 2 Chronicles 24:15-22)

a. Zechariah was the son of a good priest called Jehoiada.

b. Jehoiada had saved the life of the boy king Joash.

i. He protected him.

ii. Saved him from being assassinated.

iii. Installed him as King of Judah.

c. But Joash ordered the death of Zechariah.

i. He was killed in the temple.

ii. Near the altar of God.

d. The generation of the Lord Jesus was just as wicked.

i. They were plotting against the Lord Jesus.

ii. They would be adjudged guilty (Luke 11:51c).

WOE TO THE LAWYERS

1. These were “experts” in the law of Moses.

2. They held “the key of life” (Luke 11:52a).

a. They would explain the Scriptures.

b. They should have taught the people as the Lord Jesus did.

c. But they did not teach the Scriptures much

i. They could have entered the kingdom of God through faith.

ii. They did not enter in.

iii. They hindered people from entering the kingdom of God (Luke 11:52b).

RETALIATION OF THE PHARISEES

1. They were upset with the Lord Jesus.

2. But they could not refute what was said against them.

a. They knew the Lord Jesus was right.

b. They could not plead innocence.

3. They came up with the following plans:

a. Assailing

They assailed Him vehemently (Luke 11:53a).

b. Cross-examination

They cross-examined Him about many things (Luke 11:53b).

c. Lying in wait

They lay in wait (Luke 11:54a).

d. Seeking to entrap

“And seeking to catch Him in something He might say, that they might accuse Him” (Luke 11:54b).

律法师有祸

1. 他们是摩西律法的“专家”

2. 他们持有“知识的钥匙”《路加福音 11：52a》

a. 他们能解释经文

b. 他们应该像主耶稣一样教导人们

c. 但他们不怎么教导经文

i. 他们能以信进入上帝的帝国

ii. 但自己不进去

iii. 却阻挡正要进去的人《路加福音 11：52b》

法利赛人的报复

1. 他们因主耶稣的话感到恼怒

2. 但他们却无法反驳主耶稣的话

a. 他们知道主耶稣说的没错

b. 他们无法表示自己是清白的

3. 他们反而开始：

a. 催逼

极力地催逼他《路加福音 11：53a》

b. 引动

引动他多说话《路加福音 11：53b》

c. 私下窥听 《路加福音 11：54a》

d. 要拿他的话柄 《路加福音 11：54b》
