My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
我夜间的歌曲《路加福音》
Text: Luke 12: 8-9
CONFESSING FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
“Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God.”
Luke 12:8
1. What does it mean to “confess the Lord Jesus?”
a. It means to openly declare that we have come to believe in the Lord Jesus.
i. That He came to be our Saviour.
ii. That we have received Him as our Saviour (John 1:12).
b. Why is there an emphasis on the phrase “before men?”
i. There were people who do not believe in the Lord.
ii. They are displeased with those who believe in Him.
iii. They can create trouble for those who believe.
iv. The person who truly confesses faith in the Lord Jesus is not afraid to speak openly of believing in the Saviour.
2. What is the response of the Lord Jesus to the person who believes?
a. The Lord Jesus is also called “The Son of Man”.
i. This is a Title to describe the Lord Jesus as the Messiah.
ii. It is an ancient title found in Daniel 7:13.
iii. It described God’s Anointed who would come in the form of Man.
b. The Lord will confess the believer openly.
i. Before the holy angels of God.
ii. These angels stand in the presence of God.
iii. Thus, this confession is before God the Father.
iv. The believer is presented to God and the angels as one who is accepted.
DENYING THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
“But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.”
Luke 12:9
1. There might be those who deny the Lord Jesus.
a. They deny that they believe in the Lord Jesus.
b. They deny any faith in Him.
2. There will be sad consequences.
a. The Lord cannot accept those who deny Him.
i. That is logical.
ii. That is to be expected.
b. Before God and the holy angels:
i. The Lord will also have to deny that He is his Saviour.
ii. The individual is then not saved!
TRUE FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS
1. There is no reason to deny the Lord Jesus at all.
2. There is every reason to confess our faith in Him.
3. Let us pray and find the courage to speak of believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour.
4. He will confess us as true children of God before the holy angels.
