My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
我夜间的歌曲《路加福音》
Text: Luke 13: 4-5
THE PLACE OF REPENTANCE
1. The Message of Repentance was preached:
a. By John the Baptiser (Luke 3:3).
i. He promoted “a baptism of repentance” (Luke 3:3).
ii. He expected “fruits worthy of repentance” (Luke 3:8).
b. By the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 4:17).
2. Instruction concerning the need for repentance.
“Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
Luke 13:4-5
a. There was a Tower in Siloam that fell.
b. 18 people were killed in this tragedy.
c. The common understanding:
i. That those who were killed must have been “worse sinners” than others who lived in Jerusalem.
ii. The Lord Jesus did not agree with this common view expressed.
3. The danger of perishing
a. Many focused only on physical death.
b. The Lord went beyond this understanding.
c. If there is no repentance:
i. Then one would die with sins unforgiven.
ii. This is worse than a tragic physical death problem.
iii. Everyone should take the problem of sin seriously.
d. This was another Call from the Lord Jesus to repent from sin and to seek salvation in Him.
