我夜间的歌曲《路加福音》
Text: Luke 16: 1-4
DIFFICULT PARABLES
1. Some parables were straightforward.
2. Some other parables were more difficult to comprehend.
3. All of them must be understood within the context in which they were uttered.
THE PARABLE OF THE UNRIGHTEOUS STEWARD I
1. This particular parable is a little bit more complex to understand.
2. The parable must be read as a whole.
3. The main tenets of the parable of the unjust steward.
“He also said to His disciples: ‘There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. So he called him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’ Then the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do? For my master is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg. I have resolved what to do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’’”
Luke 16:1-4
a. There was a rich man who had employed a steward.
i. A “steward” is like a manager.
ii. He was managing the rich man’s business.
b. A bad report was made to the rich employer.
i. That his steward was unrighteous.
ii. He was in fact “wasting his goods” (Luke 16:1).
iii. He was squandering his employer’s wealth.
c. The rich employer’s response.
i. He called his steward.
ii. He spoke to him firmly about his uncalled-for behaviour.
iii. He was then dismissed from his position as his steward.
d. The plans of the steward:
i. He could not defend himself for he was guilty of misusing funds.
ii. His assessment of his future was considered.
iii. He could not survive if he were to be sacked.
iv. He came out with a plan that he hoped would secure his future.
