Text: Luke 17: 24-25
A COMPLEX PROPHECY REVEALED II
“For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
Luke 17:24-25
1. The Son of Man on earth.
a. His life and ministry on earth would be relatively short.
b. His presence on the earth must not be taken for granted.
i. His power to heal.
ii. His authority over demons.
iii. His skill in teaching the Scriptures.
2. The Son of Man’s suffering.
a. But there were some who resisted His teachings.
b. These became His enemies.
i. They had rejected the Lord Jesus.
ii. They had caused others to reject Him too.
iii. They would cause Him to suffer greatly.
iv. They would kill Him finally.
3. The Son of Man returning to the earth.
a. That return is compared to lightning.
b. This event is called “His Day”.
c. This was an event His enemies did not count on.
d. This is a glorious event for all who believe in the Lord Jesus.
4. The imagery of lightning.
a. Lightning is seen in the sky.
The Lord Jesus will come from heaven to earth.
b. Lightning is visible.
The return of the Son of Man would be seen by all.
c. Lightning speaks of power.
The Son of Man would return with awesome power.
d. Lightning is swift.
The return of the Lord Jesus would be swift too.
i. In human years, it seems like a long time.
ii. From God’s viewpoint, it is not very long.
