My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
Text: Luke 17: 26-30
A COMPLEX PROPHECY REVEALED III
“And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.”
Luke 17:26-30
1. The Day of the Son of Man revealed.
a. This is the key statement in this text.
b. This prophecy concerns the Return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. It would be a Time of Judgment.
a. The First Coming of the Lord Jesus.
i. It was for Redemption.
ii. It was Reconciliation.
b. The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus.
i. It would be to Reveal the Lord Jesus as King and Judge.
ii. It would be a time of Retribution for the wicked.
iii. It would be a time for Rewarding the faithful.
3. Two analogies made.
a. Reference to Noah:
i. Hardly anybody believed in the Flood.
ii. Life was as normal till the great Flood came with destructive force.
b. Reference to the Lord:
i. Sodom (and Gomorrah) did not believe in divine retribution.
ii. Sodom was destroyed because the people remained unrepentant.
4. The Return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
a. Many do not believe in the Lord Jesus.
b. Neither do they expect that He would return.
c. Life would go on “as normal” till it is too late to repent.
iii.
