Text: Luke 18: 31-34

SUFFERING AND DEATH

1. The Lord Jesus Christ devoted time to minister to the multitudes

a. Preaching
b. Teaching
c. Healing

2. He also devoted time to teach His Disciples-Apostles

a. They had to be taught deeper lessons about faith and ministry.
b. One of the lessons He wanted to teach them was about His suffering and death.

THE ROAD AHEAD

“Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, ‘Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.’ But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken.”

Luke 18:31-34

1. Special instructions to the Twelve

a. The Multitudes would not understand.
b. But the Disciples must not fail to comprehend how the Lord would face His suffering and death.

2. Reference to the prophets

a. The Lord Jesus made reference to the writings of the prophets.
b. The Book of Isaiah in particular described the sufferings of the Messiah (Isaiah 53).
c. These prophecies would be fulfilled by the Lord Jesus!
i. He will be delivered to the Gentiles (Romans).
ii. He will be scourged and then killed.
iii. But He will rise on the third day!

3. Sadly, there was a lack of understanding among the Disciples.

a. This truth was hidden from them.
b. They did not know (comprehend) what the Lord had said!

1.对十二门徒的特别指示

a. 群众并不会理解

b. 但门徒不能不理解主将面临的苦难和死亡

2.提到先知

a. 主耶稣提到先知所写的

b. 以赛亚书描述了弥赛亚所受的难《以赛亚书 53》

c. 主耶稣将应验这些预言！

i. 祂将被交给外邦人（罗马人）

ii. 祂将被鞭打，杀害

iii. 但在第三日，祂将复活！

3.可悲的是，门徒一样也不理解

a. 事实仍被隐藏

b. 他们不懂得（不理解）主所说的！
