Text: Luke 2: 8-15

THE GREATNESS OF THE BIRTH OF THE LORD JESUS

1. Angels were sent by God

a. To announce His birth (Luke 2:9).

b. To sing at His birth (Luke 2:13).

c. Angelic involvement pointed to the significance of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. To whom were the angels sent

a. To shepherds (Luke 2:8).

b. What were shepherds?

i. They looked after flocks of sheep.

ii. Theirs was a very humble job.

c. Who were these shepherds?

i. They were faithful shepherds.

ii. They were out in the fields watching over their flock (Luke 2:8-9).

iii. They certainly had knowledge of God.

iv. They also believed that one day God would send a Saviour to them.

3. The Message of the angel of the Lord

a. He had come to bring “good tidings of great joy… to all people” (Luke 2:10).

b. A Saviour had been born in the city of David (Bethlehem) {Luke 2:11}.

c. The Saviour had been born, and He was wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger (Luke 2:12).

4. The song of the angels

a. They sang to praise God and to give Him glory.
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14)

b. The angels then departed and returned to heaven (Luke 2:15).

ii. 他们的工作谦卑

c. 这群牧羊者是什么人？

i. 他们是信实的牧羊者

ii. 他们在野地看顾他们的羊群 《路加福音 2:8-9》

iii. 他们对上帝有知识

iv. 他们也相信上帝会派遣一位救主

3. 主的使者的信息

a. 他向他们带来“大喜的信息，是关乎万民的” 《路加福音 2：10》

b. 一位救主在大卫的城里（伯利恒）诞生了 《路加福音 2：11》

c. 救主诞生在世间，包着布，卧在马槽里 《路加福音 2：12》

4. 天使的赞美

a. 他们赞美上帝，给予祂荣耀

“在至高之处荣耀归于神！在地上平安归于他所喜悦的人！” 《路加福音 2：14》

b. 天使离开世间回到天国《路加福音 2：15》
