Text: Luke 2: 27-32

SIMEON BEHOLDING BABY JESUS

1. Unerringly, Simeon singled out Baby Jesus amidst all the people who had come to the Temple.

2. It was not unusual to see big crowds at the Temple.

3. He took Baby Jesus in his arms and blessed God (Luke 2:28).

THE PRAYER THAT SIMEON UTTERED

1. A personal prayer to God

a. God had informed him that he would not die before he saw “the Consolation of Israel,” “The Lord’s Christ” (Luke 2:25-26).

b. As he held the holy Baby in his arms, he said “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word” (Luke 2:29).

i. Baby Jesus was “the Consolation of Israel”.

ii. He was “the Lord’s Christ”.

2. A deeply insightful prayer

a. Salvation from God

“My eyes have seen Your salvation” (Luke 2:30).

b. Preparation

“Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples” (Luke 2:31).

i. There was a well-prepared plan of salvation.

ii. This salvation plan was for more than Israel.

iii. It would be for all the people in the world.

c. Gentiles were in God’s plan of salvation.

i. The Lord Jesus would be a “light”.

ii. This light would be a revelation to the Gentiles.

iii. He would bring glory to God’s people, Israel (Luke 2:32).

i. 有一个精心策划的救恩计划

ii. 这救恩计划不只是为了以色列

iii. 这会是为了世上的每一个人

c. 外邦人也在上帝救恩的计划里

i. 主耶稣会是“光”

ii. 这光会照亮外邦人

iii. 祂会给上帝的子民，以色列带来荣耀《路加福音 2:32》
