Text: Luke 21: 1-4

BASIC LESSONS

1. Some basic lessons had to be taught.

2. These were recorded in the beginning chapters of the Gospels.

3. These lessons included the following:

a. The kingdom of God
b. Faith in God
c. More meaningful praying
d. Christian character
e. Serving God

DEEPER LESSONS

1. These were taught to the Disciples.

2. Deeper insights were given to them.

3. These lessons were written in the latter chapters of the Gospels.

A LESSON ABOUT GIVING

“And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, ‘Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she
out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.’”

Luke 21:1-4

1. Large offering boxes were placed outside the Treasury of the Temple.

2. Worshippers were encouraged to give towards the maintenance and ministry of the Temple.

3. The giving of the Rich People.

a. The rich were able to give substantially.
b. Many would take notice of the rich giving towards the support of the Temple.

4. The giving of a poor widow.

a. She was only able to offer “two mites”.
b. The mites are called “lepta coins”.
c. A lepta may be compared to 1 cent coin.
d. She had 2 cents to give.

5. Significant Comment of the Lord Jesus Christ!

a. The widow’s gift of two mites was more than all the rich people had given!
b. What did He mean?
i. The rich people may have given a lot but after what they had given, they are not any poorer.
ii. The widow has given all that she had.
iii. She had not much to begin with. Now she had nothing left at all.
c. From the Divine Perspective:
i. It is not the amount that counts with God.
ii. It is the heart and spirit in which a gift is offered.
iii. To give as the widow did was to express a true faith in God and love for Him.

“耶稣抬头观看，见财主把捐项投在库里，又见一个穷寡妇投了两个小钱，就说：“我实在告诉你们：这穷寡妇所投的比众人还多。因为众人都是自己有余，拿出来投在捐项里，但这寡妇是自己不足，把她一切养生的都投上了。”

《路加福音 21:1-4》

1. 圣殿的库外有着许多奉献箱

2. 前来崇拜的人们都被鼓励给予奉献来帮助支持圣殿的职事和维修

3. 财主的奉献

a. 财主能够做出高昂的捐项

b. 许多人目睹财主捐项来支持圣殿

4. 穷寡妇的奉献

a. 她只能够投了“两个小钱”

b. 小钱也是铜钱

c. 铜钱相等于一文钱

d. 她只能够投两文钱

5. 主耶稣基督意义深重的反应！

a. 穷寡妇所投的两小钱胜于所有财主所做出的奉献！

b. 这意味着什么呢？

i. 财主虽然做出大的奉献，但是他们并没有因此变得不足。

ii. 穷寡妇把她一切养生的都投上了

iii. 她并不富裕。当她做出奉献后，她变得身无分文。

c. 从神圣的观点：

i. 上帝的焦点不在于实际的奉献

ii. 奉献的焦点是做奉献的心思意念

iii. 穷寡妇所做出的奉献反映了她对上帝的爱和真挚的信心
