Text: Luke 21: 29-33

A MASTER-TEACHER AT WORK

1. The Lord Jesus was a Master-Teacher.

2. What made Him such a skilled Teacher?

a. He had deep knowledge.
i. He had a full mastery of the teaching content.
ii. He was widely experienced.
b. He had great skills in communication.
i. He could explain profound things simply.
ii. He used a variety of ways to teach effectively.
iii. One of the most distinctive way was to use Parables.

A PARABLE ABOUT THE KINGDOM OF GOD

“Then He spoke to them a parable: ‘Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.’”

Luke 21:29-33

1. A Parable about Trees that bud.

a. There were indications that summer was near.
b. The fig and other trees begin to bud.
c. This was used as an indicator that summer would come soon.

2. Cataclysmic events

a. Wars and natural disasters.
b. Severe distress in the world.

3. What do they indicate?

a. That the kingdom of God is near.
b. The believer should look forward to the Return of the Lord Jesus.
c. The kingdom of God is a relevant focus.

4. The Assurance the Lord Jesus gave.

a. His word.
i. It has power.
ii. It has authority.
b. It will not pass away.
i. All that He has said would come to pass.
ii. All would be fulfilled as He has spoken.

5. “This generation”

a. It is not necessarily a reference to the generation of the Lord Jesus.
b. The word “generation” can refer to the people who witness these events.
c. No one needs to fear the extinction of the human race.
