My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
我夜间的歌曲《路加福音》
Text: Luke 22: 31-34
THE TWELVE APOSTLES
1. The Lord Jesus had many Disciples.
a. There was a group of Twelve (Luke 6:13-16).
b. There was another group of Seventy (Luke 10:1).
2. Out of all His Disciples:
a. He chose 12 who became Apostles (Luke 6:12-16).
b. He chose them after a night of prayer (Luke 6:12).
A SPECIAL TIME OF TESTING
“And the Lord said, ‘Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.’ But he said to Him, ‘Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.’ Then He said, ‘I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.’”
Luke 22:31-34
1. Informing Simon Peter
a. The Lord Jesus warned Peter that he would be especially tested.
b. Satan had requested to be allowed to put Peter to the test.
c. He will test Peter severely, as one would sift wheat.
2. Encouraging Peter
a. The Lord had prayed for him.
b. That his faith should not fail.
c. His faith did not fail but his courage and strength did.
d. His faith would help him regain strength and courage.
e. He must seek to encourage the others when he had been restored fully.
3. Peter’s response
a. It was from his heart.
b. He loved the Lord Jesus.
c. He declared he was willing:
i. To go to prison with the Lord Jesus.
ii. And to die for Him.
4. The Lord’s further word
a. He foresaw that Peter’s courage would fail him.
b. He was not as strong as he had imagined.
c. He would end up denying the Lord Jesus three times that he ever knew Him.
