Text: Luke 23: 13-15
THE INTERROGATION OF THE LORD JESUS
There were three interrogations so far:
1. In the house of the high priest. Luke 23:1-2
2. Before Pontius Pilate. Luke 23:3-5
3. Before Herod Antipas. Luke 23:6-12
A FRANK TALK WITH THE ACCUSERS OF THE LORD JESUS
1. Herod had sent the Lord Jesus back to Pilate.
2. Pilate could not fault the Lord Jesus based on Roman law, for He had not broken any law. How could he pronounce Him guilty?
3. The Roman governor then called for a meeting of the accusers of the Lord Jesus.
“Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, said to them, ‘You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him; no, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him.”
Luke 23:13-15
a. The accusers were called:
i. The chief priests
ii. The rulers
iii. The people (These were cronies of the Jewish Council members)
b. Pilate’s candid appraisal of the case brought by the accusers.
i. He had examined the Lord Jesus.
ii. He had also checked the accusations made against Him.
iii. He did not find any fault against the Lord Jesus.
iv. King Herod Antipas also came to the same conclusion.
v. The Lord Jesus had done nothing worthy of death!
c. The Lord Jesus was innocent.
d. He should be acquitted and set free according to the Roman law.
