My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
Text: Luke 23: 47-49
THE CROWD THAT STOOD AROUND
1. There were different groups of people who stood around at Mount Calvary.
2. There were also different responses to what they saw that day.
“So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, ‘Certainly this was a righteous Man!’ And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and returned. But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.”
Luke 23:47-49
THREE DIFFERENT GROUPS
1. The Roman soldiers
a. Some of them cast lots to decide who would have the clothes left behind.
b. There was also a centurion in charge.
c. His response:
i. He glorified God,
ii. He concluded that the Lord Jesus was “certainly a righteous Man”.
2. There were those among the crowd who were deeply moved.
a. They saw all that were done to the Lord Jesus.
b. They beat their breasts to express the following:
i. In distress.
ii. In anger.
iii. In feelings of frustration.
3. His acquaintances:
a. That is, “those who knew Him”.
b. The women disciples (Luke 8:1-3).
c. They stood at a distance and watched all that took place.

ii.
iii.
