My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
Text: Luke 24: 1-3
GOING TO THE TOMB OF THE LORD JESUS
1. The small group of women disciples waited for the Sabbath to be over.
2. They had to wait till dawn to visit the tomb where the body of the Lord Jesus was laid.
3. They had prepared all they wanted for the burial of the Lord Jesus; they had prepared spices and fragrant oils (Luke 23:56).
AT THE TOMB OF THE LORD JESUS
“Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”
Luke 24:1-3
1. The first day of the week.
This would be the day after the Sabbath. This would be equivalent to our Sunday.
2. Time of this visit.
Very early in the morning (dawn). They had left their home early to reach the Tomb.
3. Who were there?
A group of women (Luke 23:55).
4. Why had they come?
To anoint the body of the Lord Jesus with the spices they had prepared lovingly.
AN EMPTY TOMB
1. The stone that had served as a door to the tomb was rolled away.
a. Rich tombs had strong and heavy stones to prevent robbers.
b. Those who were rich were buried with treasures.
c. Tomb doors were not easily rolled away for they were very huge and heavy.
2. The women went into the tomb.
a. They had come to anoint the body of their beloved Teacher.
b. But they could not find His body!
c. They could not understand what had happened!
