My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
Text: Luke 24: 17-18
ENGAGING THE TWO DISCIPLES IN CONVERSATION
1. The Risen Saviour knew that His Disciples really needed help to regain their faith.
2. Two angels were sent to speak to a group of women disciples.
3. The women disciples were quick:
a. To understand.
b. To believe that the Lord Jesus had indeed risen from the dead.
4. But some of the Disciples found it hard to believe the women disciples!
5. The Risen Saviour lovingly reached out to His Disciples.
“And He said to them, ‘What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?’ Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, ‘Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?’”
Luke 24:17-18
STRIKING UP A CONVERSATION
1. The Lord Jesus asked them two questions:
a. What were they conversing about?
b. Why were they walking about with such sadness?
2. One of the Disciples was called Cleopas.
a. He was not one of the Apostles.
b. He was not known till now.
3. He spoke to the Lord Jesus
a. Was He a stranger in Jerusalem?
b. How could He not have known what had happened in Jerusalem in recent days?
c. The crucifixion of the Lord Jesus was a huge event in Jerusalem.
d. Nothing like it had occurred before.
e. They were obviously grieved by what they had experienced.
