Text: Luke 8: 14-15

EXPLANATION OF THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER II

1. The ones that fell among thorns (Luke 8:14)

a. These hearers had heard the gospel.

b. They go out into the world.

c. The things of the world affect them greatly.

i. They are choked with cares.

ii. They are tempted by riches.

iii. They desire the pleasures of life.

d. They bring no fruit to maturity.

i. There may have been potential fruit.

ii. But these drop off or wither away.

iii. The potential fruit did not materialise.

iv. There was no fruit ultimately.

2. The ones that fell on the good ground (Luke 8:15)

a. They too heard the same word preached.

b. They were different from the other three types of ground mentioned.

c. The hearts of these hearers were described as:

i. Noble

ii. Good

d. They keep the word.

i. They hold fast to the word of God.

ii. They would not take it lightly.

iii. They would not let the devil snatch it away.

iv. They were not shallow people.

v. They would not allow worldly things to affect the word received.

e. They bore fruit with patience.

i. The word “patience” involves perseverance.

ii. It will take time before fruit can be seen.

iii. Much effort must be put in to ensure good fruit.
