Text: Luke 8: 22-25

MEANS OF TRANSPORT

1. Most of the time, the Lord Jesus walked from one city to another.

2. There were cities that could not be reached as easily.

3. In such circumstances, the Lord Jesus would use a boat to cross from one place to another.

THE SEA OF GALILEE

1. It is actually a fresh-water lake.

2. It was also called the Sea of Tiberias (to honour Emperor Tiberias Caesar).

3. The circumference of the Sea of Galilee was about 531 km.

4. Its length was about 21 km.

5. Its depth was 43m.

CROSSING THE SEA OF GALILEE

1. The Lord Jesus spoke to His disciples about crossing the Sea (Luke 8:22).

2. He left the sailing to His Disciples (a number of them were fishermen).

3. He rested and went to sleep on board the boat (Luke 8:23a).

A SUDDEN STORM

1. A fierce storm arose (Luke 8:23b)

a. There was high wind.
b. Water came into the boat.
c. All were in danger.

2. In a panic

a. The Disciples woke the Lord up.
b. They cried out:
“Master, Master, we are perishing!”
Luke 8:24a

3. The Response of the Lord Jesus

a. He arose.
b. He rebuked the winds and waves.
c. Immediately, the sea became calm (Luke 8:24b).

4. An important question raised

a. The Lord had to speak to His disciples firmly.
“Where is your faith?”
Luke 8:25a
b. The Disciples had no answer.

5. The Reactions of the Disciples of the Lord (Luke 8:25b)

a. They were afraid of the storm.
b. Now they were afraid of their Master.
c. They marvelled and said to one another.
i. “Who can this be?”
ii. “For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

6. The Faith of the Disciples

a. It was still lacking.
b. It was not very strong.
c. They had not fully comprehended who the Lord Jesus was fully!
