My Song In The Night (Gospel of Luke)
我夜间的歌曲《路加福音》
Text: Luke 9: 57-58
FOLLOWERS OF THE LORD JESUS
1. There were the special Twelve Apostles (Luke 6:12-16).
2. There were also Seventy Disciples (Luke 10:1).
But they were not fully identified.
3. There were others whom the Apostles did not know (Luke 9:48-49).
HOW DID THEY BECOME FOLLOWERS?
1. They came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. They received teachings from the Lord Jesus (Luke 6:20-49).
3. They followed Him.
a. Some of them “full-time”.
b. Not all were able to be with Him all the time but they were good and faithful supporters (Luke 8:1-3).
WOULD-BE FOLLOWERS
1. Sometimes, others asked if they could follow Him.
2. The Lord Jesus would always give very candid answers to their requests.
A PROSPECTIVE FOLLOWER
1. This person said to the Lord Jesus.
“Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”
Luke 9:57
a. He sounded confident.
b. He sounded committed too.
2. The Lord’s reply:
“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
Luke 9:58
a. Homes are a natural desire of all.
i. “Foxes have holes”
This is a reference to their home.
ii. “Birds… have nests”
This is also a reference to their home.
b. “The Son of Man”
i. This is a reference to the Lord Jesus.
ii. He does not own a home.
iii. He does not have all the comforts of home at hand.
c. Many are not fully aware of the sacrifices that must be made in order to follow the Lord faithfully.
i. The focus is not in owning a home with all its comforts.
ii. To successfully follow the Lord Jesus, one must be prepared to forgo the usual comforts of home.
