Text: Luke 9: 3-6

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

1. This was a short preaching trip.

2. “Take nothing for the journey” (Luke 9:3).

a. No staff

b. No bag

c. No bread

d. No money

e. Not even an extra tunic

f. They must learn the following lessons:

i. They learn Focus.

ii. They learn Trust.

iii. They learn about God’s power working in and through them.

3. “Whatever house you enter” (Luke 9:4)

a. This was “household evangelism”.

b. Stay as long as needed.

c. Leave after the Gospel is presented.

4. “Whoever will not receive you” (Luke 9:5a)

a. Some cities will be hostile.

b. They will reject the Apostles.

5. “As a testimony against them” (Luke 9:5b)

a. Symbolic shaking of the dust from the city.

b. As a sign that they have been rejected.

c. This will be a sign against the city.

COMPLIANCE OF THE DISCIPLES

1. They had been trained.

2. They were further instructed.

3. They were willing to obey.

4. They experienced good success.

a. They departed.

b. They went through the towns.

c. They preached the gospel and healed the sick (Luke 9:6)
