My Song In The Night (Vital Doctrines)
我夜间的歌曲《重要教义-救恩》
Text: Colossians 2: 19
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“And not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.”
Colossians 2:19
THE NOURISHING OF THE CHURCH
1. The Church was likened to a human body.
a. The Church was called “the body”. Colossians 1:24
b. The Head of the body was the Lord Jesus. Colossians 1:18
2. The false teachers:
a. They were seeking to draw believers away from the Church.
b. They were proposing other teachings that were false.
c. They were encouraging believers to worship angels.
3. Paul countered this very strongly.
a. The challenge was to “hold fast to the Head”.
b. All believers must hold fast to the Lord Jesus, as the Head of the body.
c. To worship angels would be tantamount to recognising them as equal to the Lord.
4. The Head and the body:
a. They were linked inextricably.
b. Or there would be dismemberment!
5. How are the body parts linked?
a. All are joined together by “joints and ligaments”.
b. All are intricately knit together.
c. The human body is marvellously constructed.
d. Its creation is a miraculous work of God.
e. So is the Church, the body of the Lord Jesus Christ.
6. The growth of the church-body.
a. All living things grow.
b. So must the church-body grow.
c. The growth of the Church-body is a special work of God.
7. An example of the growth of the Jerusalem Church.
a. Numerical growth.
i. It began with 120 members (Acts 1:15).
ii. It grew and added 3000 more (Acts 2:41).
b. Spiritual growth.
i. Growth in knowledge of the Lord Jesus.
ii. Growth in faith.
iii. Growth in practical concerns for those in need (Acts 2:40-47).
