Text: Galatians 2: 6-8
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“But from those who seemed to be something—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows personal favouritism to no man—for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me. But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel for the circumcised was to Peter (for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles).”
Galatians 2:6-8
THE CHURCH LEADERS IN JERUSALEM
1. The leaders in the Church in Jerusalem.
a. They were admired by the church at large.
b. They held positions of respect and authority.
2. Paul’s view of the church leaders in Jerusalem.
a. They made no difference to Paul.
i. They did not add to his knowledge of the Gospel.
ii. They did not add to his faith in any way.
b. They “seemed to be something”.
i. Paul was not awed by them.
ii. He understood their positions of influence.
3. The recognition of the Church leaders in Jerusalem.
a. They saw and understood his ministry.
b. It was a special and unique ministry.
c. Paul’s preaching of “the gospel to the uncircumcised” was acknowledged.
d. In fact, Paul’s ministry to the Gentiles was seen as being on par as Peter’s ministry to the circumcised (The Jews).
4. The divine power of God.
a. It was God who worked in the Apostle Peter effectively.
b. There was no doubt that God was also effectively working in the Apostle Paul.
c. Paul’s ministry was not a lesser ministry than that of Peter!
d. There was no denying the divine authority and power working in both apostles!
