My Song In The Night (Vital Doctrines)
我夜间的歌曲《重要教义-救恩》
Text: Colossians 3: 12
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering.”
Colossians 3:12
HOW GOD REGARDS THOSE WHO ARE HIS PEOPLE
1. Believers are called:
a. “The Elect of God”
i. Chosen by God by His foreknowledge.
ii. Chose by God out of His grace and mercy.
b. “Holy and beloved”
i. They are declared holy, imputed with righteousness.
ii. They are beloved children of God through the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Recalling how God regarded Israel.
a. We are reminded of how God chose Israel.
b. This declaration is to be remembered.
“For you are holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.”
Deuteronomy 7:6
i. A holy people to the LORD.
ii. Chosen by God.
iii. A special treasure above all others.
iv. These things were applied to all believers of the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. Extending the idea of “putting on”.
a. The challenge was to put on the new man.
i. This is not only to be appreciated as a doctrine.
ii. It is to be cultivated in our life.
b. Practical expressions to teach us how to regard others:
i. Tender mercies
ii. Kindness
iii. Mercy
c. Then there is the focus on how we are to cultivate the following virtues:
i. Humility
ii. Meekness
iii. Longsuffering (patience)
These qualities would reflect the “new man” God has created in all who profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
