My Song In The Night (Vital Doctrines)
我夜间的歌曲《重要教义-救恩》
Text: Galatians 3: 2-4
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?”
Galatians 3:2-4
REASONING WITH THE GALATIANS
1. Paul sought to reason with the Galatian believers.
2. The focus of this reasoning is still on Salvation.
3. When a person receives salvation, he actually also receives the Spirit of God.
a. The Holy Spirit is the seal of salvation.
b. He is also the guarantee of salvation (Ephesians 1:13-14).
4. Paul urged the Galatians to recall their salvation.
a. Was the Spirit of God received by the works of the law?
b. Was He not received by the hearing of faith?
c. The answer was clear and obvious.
i. Salvation was by grace through faith.
ii. The Spirit of God was received by salvation that was given through faith in God and His matchless grace.
5. An appeal to wisdom.
a. Foolish thinking must be set aside.
b. Wisdom must be found and applied.
c. The whole salvation experience began with faith.
i. Faith in God.
ii. Faith in the Lord Jesus as Saviour.
iii. Faith that results in justification.
iv. Faith in the Lord was confirmed by the in-dwelling of the Spirit of God.
d. Why would the Galatians now depend on the flesh to perfect or complete the work of faith that had begun?
i. The works of the flesh cannot gain salvation.
ii. They cannot cause the Spirit of God to dwell in our hearts.
iii. No amount of keeping the Law would result in the Spirit of God being given.
6. Suffering for the faith:
a. Many Christians suffered for their faith in the Lord Jesus.
b. There were wicked people who resorted to evil to persecute believers.
c. The Galatian believers also suffered for their faith in the Lord Jesus.
d. By giving up their faith in the Lord, would that not obviate the suffering they had undergone?
The Galatians must use their reasoning and then hold fast to their faith and salvation the Lord had graciously granted them!
